Commercial licensing

iiq-rules-mcp is proprietary software distributed as an installable only (see LICENSE): evaluation and personal learning are free during a full-featured 7-day trial — start it with your email (iiq-rules-activate trial --email you@…); one trial per person and device. Using it in the course of paid work, or to operate, maintain, or change a live IdentityIQ environment, requires a commercial license — even if the environment you point it at is a sandbox. The full definition of Production Use is below and in the EULA. Source code is not distributed; enterprise customers can arrange source review under NDA and source escrow (see the Enterprise tier).

What a license includes

  • A signed license file (see below) for the term.
  • All releases during your license term — new checks, calibration updates, and fixes. This product's value compounds: every measured live failure across the install base becomes a new verification check.
  • Support per tier (community / priority / committed response targets).

The license file — offline by design

The verification and analysis engine makes zero network calls — your rules, file paths, and IIQ data never leave your machine. The only network egress in the package is the license client (one auditable module): trial start, activation, and a roughly monthly lease renewal (30-day leases), transmitting your email (at signup/deactivation), the license id, and salted device-identifier hashes. Individual licenses are device-bound and lease-based; enterprise licenses (root-signed files) verify fully offline for air-gapped environments.

License behavior depends on the license type. Individual licenses are device-bound and lease-based: the free trial and paid terms provide full functionality, and when the trial ends or a lease lapses (after a short offline grace period) the verification tools stop issuing verdicts and return a licensing message, while iiq_grounding_status stays available for diagnosis. Enterprise licenses (root-signed) verify fully offline and are label-only: on expiry they enter a 14-day grace period and keep functioning while labeling their status, so air-gapped production infrastructure is never locked out. Either way the label is notice, not permission: Production Use without a valid license remains a violation of the EULA.

Definitions

  • Seat: one named individual authorized to use the software. For Team and Site licenses a Seat covers that individual on any number of devices they use; an Individual license binds to one device (two self-migrations per calendar year). A Seat may be reassigned to a different individual no more than once per calendar month.
  • Site: (a) one legal entity identified in the license file, together with its employees and individual contractors, solely for work on IdentityIQ environments owned or operated by that entity; or (b) where the license file designates a systems-integrator practice ("SI Site"), one identified practice group within one legal entity, together with its employees and individual contractors, solely for work on IdentityIQ environments of the SI Site's clients performed under a client engagement. An SI Site license licenses the SI Site's personnel only; it grants no rights to the SI Site's clients, whose own personnel require their own license for Production Use.
  • Production Use: any use of the software (a) to operate, maintain, or change a live (production) IdentityIQ environment, or any environment from which configurations or rules are promoted to a live environment; or (b) in the course of, or to produce deliverables for, paid work concerning any IdentityIQ environment (including consulting, systems-integration, staff augmentation, and managed services), in each case whether or not the software itself runs on a production system. Production Use does not include evaluation of the software itself or personal learning.
  • Your IdentityIQ license: this software operates exclusively on YOUR licensed SailPoint artifacts in YOUR environment. You (or, for an SI Site, your client) must hold a valid IdentityIQ license; nothing of SailPoint's is included or redistributed here.

FAQ

Can I evaluate it against a production export? Yes — evaluation of the software is non-production use of this software, regardless of which of your own artifacts you point it at. The boundary: the moment you use it to do paid work, or to change what runs in production, you need a license.

Air-gapped network? Enterprise (root-signed) licenses verify fully offline — that's the design. Individual licenses need brief internet connectivity about once a month to renew their 30-day lease.

Do unlicensed copies stop working? Individual licenses: yes — when the trial ends or a lease lapses, verification stops issuing verdicts (with iiq_grounding_status still available for diagnosis). Enterprise (root-signed) licenses: no — they are labeled, not disabled, so air-gapped infrastructure is never locked out; there, compliance is contractual, and Production Use without a valid license violates the EULA even though the software keeps running.
